Postdoctoral Fellowship in DBT: Track 1

Applicants who would be better suited for Track 1 are those who are interested in entering into the world of private practice—whether full- or part-time. The fellow will be mentored through the process of launching their own private practice, including the steps needed (a) to form their own business in the state of Washington, (b) to obtain licensure in Washington, and (c) and to build a robust, evidence-based clinical practice specializing in DBT. By the end of the fellowship, the transition to practicing independently should be an easy one. Additionally, at the end of training year, the fellow may have the opportunity to apply to join The Seattle Clinic community. The Seattle Clinic represents a synthesis between independent and group practice: each practitioner maintains the freedom to operate one’s own psychology practice, while doing so alongside a community of clinicians and friends who value evidence-based treatment, compassionate care, and continued learning.

The supervisors for Track 1 are Drs. Dorian Hunter and Jared Michonski. Fellows will receive weekly supervision/consultation from both supervisors. Drs. Hunter and Michonski have expertise in the following areas, respectively:

Dorian Hunter, PhD

  • DBT with adults.

  • DBT and CBT for substance use disorders.

  • DBT-oriented Prolonged Exposure Therapy for PTSD.

  • DBT and CBT for binging/purging eating disorders.

  • Cognitive and behavioral treatments for a variety of mood and anxiety conditions.

  • Functional Analytic Psychotherapy (FAP).

Jared Michonski, PhD

  • DBT with adults, adolescents, and families.

  • DBT-oriented Prolonged Exposure Therapy for treating PTSD.

  • Behavioral Parent Training for parents of emotionally dysregulated teens and young adults.

  • Cognitive and behavioral treatments for a variety of mood and anxiety conditions.

  • The integration of theologically-informed interventions with CBT.
